Can I combine a standard order with a pending subscription order to save on shipping costs?

Unfortunately, no.

Subscriptions are an entirely separate system that does not offer the opportunity or option to combine orders for shipping purposes.  This ultimately is what helps keep Subscriptions as reliable and economical as possible!
